WMFNTK is built to hold sensitive personal and family information. This policy explains what we collect, how intelligence features process data, and what happens when you opt out.
1. Who We Are
WMFNTK, LLC ("WMFNTK," "we," "us," or "our") is a secure document and estate planning service operated at whatmyfamilyneedstoknow.com. The application is accessible at app.wmfntk.com.
Questions about this policy can be directed to support@wmfntk.com.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information — your full name, email address, and phone number when you sign up
- LifeBytes℠ content — titles, notes, tags, and any file attachments you upload
- Address Book entries — physical addresses and phone numbers you save
- LifeProxy℠ designations — names and email addresses of people you designate as trusted contacts
- Household information — invited household members, roles, invitation status, and related access context
- Payment information — billing details processed directly by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
- Log data — IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps when you use the service
- Device information — operating system and device type for security and session management
- Cookies and session tokens — used to keep you signed in and to prevent cross-site request forgery
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the WMFNTK service
- To authenticate your identity via one-time passcodes (OTP) sent by email or SMS
- To process subscription payments through Stripe
- To send transactional emails — account confirmations, OTP codes, LifeProxy℠ access notifications
- To enforce household membership limits and access controls
- To operate optional intelligence features when enabled by the user
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access
- To respond to your support requests
- To improve the product based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns
We do not use your content (LifeBytes℠, notes, attachments) to train machine learning models. We do not sell your data. Ever.
4. Intelligence Feature Processing
WMFNTK intelligence features are optional and consent-based. They include Ask WMFNTK, document intelligence, document metadata indexing, guided LifeByte℠ creation from uploaded documents, and on-demand document extraction.
- Consent — document intelligence is off unless you enable it in settings. You may disable it later.
- Record retrieval — Ask WMFNTK can use only records the authenticated user is authorized to access. The model does not decide authorization.
- Document processing — when intelligence is enabled or when you use guided document creation, files may be sent to private AWS processing components, including Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Textract.
- Metadata — WMFNTK may store sanitized metadata such as summaries, document types, topics, entity labels, retrieval hints, confidence values, and sensitivity classifications to improve search and targeting.
- Raw extracted text — WMFNTK does not persist raw extracted document text for the v1 intelligence workflow. Uploaded files remain stored as user attachments unless deleted by the user or account deletion process.
- Generated drafts — draft LifeByte℠ titles, notes, and tags generated from a document are temporary until you review and save them.
- No model training — we do not use your LifeBytes℠, addresses, LifeProxy℠ information, uploaded files, document contents, or extracted values to train public AI models.
- Logs — we design audit and operational logs to avoid raw secrets, raw extracted document text, and revealed sensitive values.
5. Intelligence Opt-Out and Cleanup
If you disable intelligence functions, WMFNTK removes stored intelligence metadata associated with your account, including document metadata, document processing asset records, and LifeByte℠ semantic metadata. This does not delete your original LifeBytes℠, addresses, LifeProxies℠, or uploaded attachments.
After opt-out, existing records remain usable through ordinary WMFNTK features, but document intelligence and AI-assisted retrieval will not continue processing your documents unless you enable the feature again.
6. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
Service providers
- Stripe — payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Twilio — SMS delivery for OTP verification codes
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — document processing, Bedrock model inference, Textract OCR, queueing, logs, and supporting infrastructure for intelligence features
- Vercel — application hosting and deployment
Each provider is contractually required to protect your data and use it only to provide their services to us.
LifeProxy℠ access
When you designate someone as a LifeProxy℠, you are explicitly authorizing them to view the LifeBytes℠ you have shared with them, under the access conditions you set. This sharing is controlled entirely by you and can be revoked at any time.
Legal requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to prevent harm, fraud, or illegal activity.
Business transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred to a successor entity. We will notify you before any such transfer and will require the successor to honor this privacy policy.
7. Data Security
We take the security of your information seriously:
- All data in transit is encrypted
- All data at rest is encrypted on our servers
- Sensitive fields including LifeByte℠ titles and notes are encrypted at the application layer before being stored in the database — an additional layer beyond server-level encryption
- Authentication uses one-time passcodes rather than passwords, reducing the risk of credential compromise
- CSRF protection is enforced on all state-changing requests
- Internal Vercel-to-AWS and AWS-to-Vercel intelligence calls use directional signed requests
- Access checks are enforced server-side before records are returned or processed
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@wmfntk.com.
8. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription:
- You retain access through the end of your billing period
- You may export your data at any time before your account is closed
- Upon account deletion, your content (LifeBytes℠, attachments, addresses) is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days
- We may retain certain records (billing history, support correspondence) as required by law or for legitimate business purposes
9. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — update or correct inaccurate information via your account settings
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export — download your LifeBytes℠ data at any time from the application
- Withdraw consent — revoke LifeProxy℠ access at any time
- Disable intelligence — turn off intelligence functions and remove stored intelligence metadata
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@wmfntk.com. We will respond within 30 days.
California residents (CCPA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To submit a CCPA request, contact support@wmfntk.com.
10. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies and session tokens to operate the service — to keep you signed in and to prevent cross-site attacks. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so will prevent you from signing in to the application.
11. Children's Privacy
WMFNTK is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at support@wmfntk.com and we will promptly delete the account.
12. Third-Party Links
Our marketing site may contain links to external resources (such as the NIH or CFPB). These sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a prominent notice in the application at least 14 days before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
The current version of this policy is always available at whatmyfamilyneedstoknow.com/privacy.html.
